Screening Plagiarism
BORASPATI Journal maintains a zero-tolerance policy regarding plagiarism to ensure the highest standards of academic integrity and scientific quality. Every manuscript submitted to our system undergoes a rigorous screening process before being sent to reviewers.
1. Screening Tools and Methodology
The Editorial Board of BORASPATI Journal utilizes professional-grade detection software to identify text similarities:
-
Primary Tool: All manuscripts are screened via Turnitin or iThenticate.
-
Scope of Screening: The software compares the submission against billions of web pages, archived internet content, and a vast database of scholarly periodicals and journals.
-
AI Content Detection: In line with evolving publishing ethics, we also employ AI-detection tools to ensure the authenticity of the author's voice and research originalities.
2. Similarity Threshold (Tolerance Level)
To maintain a competitive edge for Sinta 2 accreditation, BORASPATI Journal applies the following strict criteria:
-
Maximum Similarity Index: The overall similarity must not exceed 15% (excluding the Bibliography/References and common phrases/mathematical formulas).
-
Single-Source Limit: Similarity with any single source must not exceed 3%.
-
Self-Plagiarism: Authors must avoid "salami slicing" or reusing their own previously published work without significant new contributions and proper citation.
3. Handling Procedure
Based on the screening results, the Editor will take the following actions:
-
Below 15%: The manuscript proceeds to the Peer-Review stage.
-
16% - 30%: The manuscript is "Returned for Correction." Authors must revise the highlighted sections and provide a more original synthesis.
-
Above 30%: The manuscript is "Rejected" immediately due to high similarity, as it indicates a lack of original contribution.
4. Consequences of Academic Misconduct
Plagiarism is considered a serious ethical violation. If substantial plagiarism is discovered:
-
Pre-publication: The manuscript will be rejected, and the author's institution may be notified if the violation is severe.
-
Post-publication: If plagiarism is identified after an article has been published, BORASPATI Journal will issue a formal Retraction following the COPE Retraction Guidelines.
5. Author Responsibility
Authors are encouraged to pre-screen their work before submission. Proper paraphrasing, accurate citation, and the use of reference management software (e.g., Mendeley or Zotero) are mandatory to ensure that all intellectual contributions from other scholars are appropriately recognized.
